I brought this book up to my therapist today and I do mean that as a compliment to the author. This was PHENOMENAL, but definitely check the trigger warnings because it is dark dark dark (in the best way). It was also weirdly cathartic for me? It’s definitely in the running for my favorite book of the year but I was definitively Not Okay for a few hours after finishing it. 10/10 I have been hoarding @galaxyjanna.art paintings since they arrived and finally I have found a frame that fits the beauty and peace of one of them. For the other scene artwork (and the insane portraits she did!!!) I’ll be getting custom frames from a local art store because truly her paintings deserve the royal treatment. Please please please give Janna a follow and I’ll be trying to round up socials for the other incredible artists I have on my walls! One of the paintings I hung is actually my own— can you guess which one? And did you spot the first EVER Carbon Chronicles fanart that I keep close to my heart? Happy Black History Month! I am so hyped for a lot of these picks and I’ve already started Unmasking AI and it does not disappoint. A huge shoutout to my local library system for having such a wonderful selection of authors to choose from, but also pls hurry up cataloguing Last First Kiss by @wintersjulian bc I NEED it and the local bookstore didn’t have a copy (yet, they assured me it was just delayed by the snowstorm). Reminder that Black authors write books across all genres; in this 50 second reel with have nonfiction, sci fi, dystopian, romance, horror, fantasy, dark academia and graphic novel. And remember to support Black indie authors too— I want to give a specific shoutout to @jacqueaye for her gorgeous queer books!
